Fifty-five students from high schools in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, Bedford, Euclid, Garfield Heights, Chagrin Falls and Shaker Heights) are working side-by-side with local artists to create visual and performing art under a large tent on Shaker Square.

ArtWorks, organized by Young Audiences of Greater Cleveland, will run from 10 am – 4 pm from Monday June 13 through Friday, June 24, 2005.

At lunchtime ArtWorks students will hear local artists and representatives from organizations that use the arts in the workplace speak on ways the skills learned in this program are employable skills. Speakers include:

Kathy Coakley, museum exhibition
Amanda Grandel – art director, Marcus Thomas Advertising
Robert P. Madison - architect, Robert P. Madison International
Matthew T. - film maker
Gitte Waldman - IDEO
Yanni Yessios - digital technology/art

The public is invited to attend the ArtWorks closing program on Shaker Square on Friday June 24 at 6 pm. See a display of the students' final work and a culminating performance.

ArtWorks is designed to provide the time and space to help students expand their artistic talents, create original works of art and gain valuable skills needed for the workforce like project planning, teamwork, creative thinking, and collaboration with diverse individuals.

Project artists include Hector Kesler Castellanos (visual arts), Carol Adams (visual arts), Baba Jubal Harris (music), Scott Miller (theater), Susana Evert (dance) and Piet Van Lier (photography).

The public is invited to stop in and observe the artists and students in action. All visual artwork will be on display and the dance, music and drama apprentices will perform regularly.

The ArtWorks project is supported through the generosity
of Forest City Enterprises and anonymous donors.
