The December 21, 1929 Plain Dealer ran this picture. The caption said it was the
Square's first Christmas and 4,000 lights were used by engineers at GE's Nela Park labs.

1948 - Christmas window display at Halle's at Shaker Square

From the Cleveland Memory collection at CSU. Published in the Plain Dealer in 1948.
This store had opened in September and was Halle's first Cleveland-area store
outside of downtown. The firm of architects Richard L. Bowen and Associates
has occupied the building since 1983.

1977 Christmas Celebration

From a video on the website of Channel 5 (ABC) showing TV personalities
Dorothy Fuldheim and Jan Jones.  Fuldheim, then 84, was a television
news pioneer who lived in Shaker Towers, east of the Square. Watch the video.

 

2002  -  the Square at Christmas time

Patrick Shepard took this picture looking south-east from the roof
of the apartment building just west of the Square. At that time Shaker Square
 was owned by the company that had redeveloped it in 2000.

2006 Christmas Tree Lighting

The Coral Company bought the Square in 2004. Its first years of ownership offered Christmas Tree lighting celebrations, with local TV personalities, music and singing.
They have ended.

of the Square from the roof of the apartment building just west of the Square.
 

2010 Christmas Trees at the Square 

This may have been the last year the Square was well decorated.
