  • September 24  “Facing Windows” (“La finestra di fronte”)
    (2003) stars the delightful Italian actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno, the moving Massimo Girotti, and Raoul Bova. The story depicts the unsettling life of married Giovanna who finds herself taking care of Simone, an elderly Holocaust survivor her husband befriended who helps Giovanna find the courage to fulfill a secret dream. Her life is further complicated as she tempts fate by falling in love with her neighbor. This romantic drama won 19 awards and 16 nominations. It received the Italian Oscar for Best Actor, Best Film, Best Actress and Best Music and was nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
     
  • October 1  “For Roseanna”
    (1997) Filmed in Rome, this delightful comedy starring the famous actor Jean Reno lights up the screen. This moving story laced with comedic genius shows the human spirit and the things we do for love. A warm laugh filled movie which will have you smiling and crying at the same time.
     
  • October 8 “Miracle at Santa Anna” ("Miracolo a Sant'Anna")
    (2008) Filmed in Tuscany, this is director Spike Lee’s moving film of courage under fire. Based on a true story of World War II in the village of Sant’anna di Stazzema, Italy. Stars American actor John Turturro (Golden Globe nominee and Italian Oscar winner 1992), Italian actress Valentina Cervi, and Omar Benson in a moving portrayal of Private Sam Train. The ensuing “Miracle at Santa Anna” weaves its way through the film to a truly surprising ending. Nominated for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Film.
